To bring voice services in-house and build a secure network
Network Equipment Technologies (NET) has announced that the Dubai Executive Council (DEC) is deploying its VX Series to enable its move from a hardware-based voice system to a software-powered voice system.
The company said that its VX Series will enable DEC to bring voice services in-house and build a secure network that would support the deployment of a Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 (OCS) environment throughout the organisation. The DEC expects to grow the number of users in the future.
Nick Keating, CEO of NET, said: "The Middle East and Northern Africa has been a market that has shown significant interest in unified communications and VoIP-based applications. The success of the Dubai Executive Council testing and deployment is indicative of the opportunity we see in this region and our local presence enables us to better address the needs of current customers and partners in the region as well as better support new opportunities."
According to NET, working with the Dubai office of IDC, an Italian integrator and Microsoft Voice Certified Partner, its VX Series was tested and implemented throughout the DEC's network. The trial initially involved "front ending" the PBX without added functionality, during which no users noticed any difference in operation. After the completion of this test, some of the DEC's OCS users were migrated off the PBX and calls in all directions were tested, along with fail-over of all components.
With OCS deployed on the VX 1800, the DEC's users can tie into the system from anywhere. With the distributed nature of the VX, it is possible to reroute calls and continue business as usual, the company said.
The VX 1800 reportedly offers Gigabit Ethernet interface, enabling direct connectivity to the DEC's core router, required power supply in each node and sufficient call capacity.
